Description of General Responsibilities

The Coordinator for Student Governance has primary responsibility for the daily advisement and management of the Student Government Association (SGA) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). The Coordinator will oversee the education and development of the students within the SGA to increase understanding and levels of leadership development, civic responsibility, and integrity based decision making. The Coordinator will assist SGA with the development of goals and objectives for their year in office. He/she will monitor SGA spending and be responsible for assuring that spending is done in accordance with SGA, university, and state standards. The Coordinator, along with the Assistant Director for Student Governance, serves as a liaison between the three branches of the SGA (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial) and will maintain communication with Student Organization Finance, Student Organization Development, Event and Meeting Services, Division of Student Affairs, as well as the university and community at large. Their responsibilities include attending meetings, the coordination of advisement, student professional development and training, and the communication of SGA initiatives/bills to other organizations and departments within VCU.

Required Qualifications

*Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student College Personnel Counseling or a related discipline or equivalent training and/or experience.
*Experience advising and/or supervising student groups (such as Student Government Association)
*Strong organizational and communication skills
*Ability to create, implement, and evaluate university-wide student centered programs
*Ability to create organizational goals and reporting
*Ability to demonstrate initiative, work independently and as a team member
*Ability to work in a culturally diverse setting and with diverse populations is required

Preferred Qualifications

*Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, recreation or related field
*Experience managing budgets
*Experience planning events/programs
*Experience writing policies and guidelines
*Experience developing and facilitating training
