Description of General Responsibilities

The Account Management Specialist works directly with Departmental Administrator and Grant Management Specialist on various tasks associated with procurement and human resources within the department. The Specialist performs advanced computerized fiscal, bookkeeping and accounting related duties for the department. This employee will be responsible for reconciliation of all grant and university accounts. The individual will engage in purchasing, accounts payable, travel, and payroll functions.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline or an equivalent combination of college and related work experience.
- Customer service orientation and ability to engage in effective problem solving, communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, demonstrate initiative, independence and interdependence as required by the activity, work as an effective team member are needed.
- Must be able to identify and institute continuous quality improvement processes and to use technology to maximum efficiency.
- Basic accounting experience
- Successful work history demonstrating either effective project management or management of multiple complex tasks
- Experience with word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Knowledge of relevant computer software programs including Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email and calendar programs; and ability to learn software systems adopted by the university (Banner eServices and Reporting Center, RAM-Spot, GradTrak, Blackboard, DegreeWorks, Course Inventory Management system [CIM], EMS system for room requests, Redcap).
- Significant grant-related administrative, fiscal experience and graduate student program management experience are required.
- Ability to critically review and draw logical conclusions from various data fields and narrative descriptions and proof complex documents for editorial issues and logical consistency between and within components of the documents is necessary.
- High level organizational skills, attention to detail.
- Ability to access resources via the internet are required.
- Must be able to work in a diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- In-depth knowledge of rules and regulations regarding grant, university, and state funds, payroll, budgeting, finance, purchasing, accounts payable, and travel.
- Willing to work flexible hours to meet deadline demands for applications and reports.
- Knowledge of NIH era Commons, and RPPR “progress” reports.
- Knowledge of federal, state and university fiscal and research compliance policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of VCU specific grant submission and grant management processes.
- Strong proficiency in the required software programs, use of university research and fiscal data sets.
