The Brandcenter, through its groundbreaking Master of Science Degree program and executive education programming, seeks to develop the world’s best creative problem solvers, inspiring students to understand the potential of powerful ideas—ideas born of truth and shaped by a commitment to applying creativity to uncover solutions to improve the world.

As part of the VCU School of Business, the Brandcenter serves as a dynamic hub for advertising and marketing education, fueled by creativity that prepares students to lead in a complex world.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

This position is responsible for providing overall strategic leadership for the Brandcenter including
• ensuring the curriculum is relevant and that they maintain the integrity of the academic program,
• recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty and students
• building strong relationships internally, across the University, and with the advertising and marketing industry
• fundraising
• inspiring creativity and innovation
• serving as a champion for diversity and inclusion
• ensuring financial sustainability of the unit

This leader must have a vision and passion to move the school forward by keeping it contemporary and retaining the Brandcenter’s status as the top graduate program in its field.

The executive director will
• be a strategic thinker
• be technologically savvy as it relates to applications in the industry
• have earned a national and global industry prominence
• seek creative ways for to enhance diversity and inclusion
• be adaptable and embrace the inevitable changes in the industry

This position serves as the chief advocate/proponent/champion for the school and will be responsible to engage the top agencies, companies, conferences, and colleges to support our mission and students.

Position Responsibilities

• Engage in strategic planning for the Brandcenter between the University, Schools, and Brandcenter Staff.
• Execute strategic directives and provide overall leadership in strategy development for moving the Brandcenter forward.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams and supervising staff
• Enhance and expand the Brandcenter’s program and strive to increase enrollments.
• Regularly engage with the Board to seek industry understanding, trends, and best practices.
• Facilitate relationships with corporate and other organizational partners that enhance the teaching, research, and service goals of the Brandcenter.
• Represent the Brandcenter at information seminars, recruiting events, and other events.
• Serve as the Brandcenter’s fundraiser by proposing strategies for solicitation of major gifts, including determining ongoing relationships with prospects and current donors.
• Actively engage alumni as enthusiastic brand ambassadors
• Efficiently and effectively manage the Center’s resources, including preparation and monitoring of the Center’s budget and annual reports.
• Meet with prospective students as needed.
• Regular collaboration with the School of Business.
• Exercise expert knowledge of degree program policies and procedures
• Maintain and update a Policy and Procedure, as needed, ensuring that practices and initiatives are consistent with University policy and guidelines.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced Degree or equivalent work experience or training that equates to an advanced degree.
• Experience running a company with the leadership experience, understanding and ability to also work within an academic setting
• A self-starter with strong work ethics, initiative, and passion for students’ success
• Excellent organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty, respect and professional and scholarly ethics
• Demonstrated ability to inspire creativity and innovation, promoting a creative culture
• Experience working in an organization that is recognized nationally as a marketing/advertising leader in the field
• Embraces technology
• A minimum of five years work experience in a leadership role within Advertising and Marketing field, experience in higher education would be a plus.
• Experience balancing strategic and tactical perspectives.
• Ability to work well independently and in teams.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a dynamic industry leading organization that advances innovation and entrepreneurship
