Position Summary and Qualifications

Mission or Goal of Unit

The SCMA Department oversees the undergraduate, masters of supply chain management, and masters of decision analytics (regular and professional) programs. The department is active with local, national, and international associations (ISM, CSCMP, APICS, IPSERA) and works collaboratively with industry partners through student initiatives and research projects.

Virginia Commonwealth University is located in the heart of Richmond, the capital city of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Multiple Fortune 500 firms and many other globally-recognized firms are headquartered or have a strong local presence in the city and surrounding metropolitan area.

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

The Department of Supply Chain Management & Analytics (SCMA) in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University invites outstanding candidates to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management and Analytics. This is a tenure-track faculty position, effective August 17, 2018.

Position Responsibilities

1. Research
Faculty member is expected to successfully conduct scholarly research at the intersection of supply chain or operations management and analytics where the output of such research appears in high caliber peer reviewed journals recognized by the SCMA Department. The faculty member also is expected to establish a nationally recognized research program with a record of publication in the aforementioned journals. External funding of research projects is encouraged.

2. Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities at the intersection of analytics and supply chain management at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Opportunities exist for qualified candidates to teach in the School of Business Executive Graduate Programs.

3. Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Business, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field (i.e. journal reviewer, conference organizer). Junior faculty service loads are less in comparison to senior faculty in order to facilitate the establishment of a rigorous research program.

Required Qualifications

A qualified candidate should have obtained a Ph.D. degree (or anticipated by August 2018) in supply chain management, management science, operations management, or a related discipline. A candidate applying for the position is expected to have an established research agenda with a clear plan for high caliber publications. The ability to obtain external funding is a positive trait. The faculty member should be willing to teach undergraduate and graduate analytics and/or supply chain courses. Opportunities also exist to teach in the School of Business Executive Graduate Programs and corporate education programs. In addition, the candidate should have the desire and ability to engage external stakeholders as the department is continuing to forge strategic partnerships with local businesses and the supply chain community.

Although all areas will be considered, special consideration will be given to a candidate who intersects their scholarship and teaching interests with business analytics and supply chain management. A candidate should have the desire to actively collaborate with current faculty and relevant stakeholders, plus engage with and support the School’s strategic plan that emphasizes experiential learning, problem-solving curricula, impactful research, and creative culture. A candidate must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a strong commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU. The ideal candidate will have had full-time work experience with responsibilities in a functional role related to supply chain management which fosters an appreciation for and awareness of business practice.
