Description of General Responsibilities

Reporting to the ICA’s Director of Communications, the Digital Content Manager oversees the design, development, and implementation of content strategies for the ICA’s website and collaboratively supports all other digital platforms. The position is editorial and technical in nature; the content manager develops digital project briefs and requirements, oversees content generation, and coordinates both internal and external production teams, and serves as a liaison with the ICA’s stakeholders. The person in this position writes and edits copy and develops digital initiatives to deepen visitor engagement and connection with the VCU community and build institutional visibility. The Digital Content Manager serves as a part of a four-person team, which includes: the Director of Communications, Marketing and Production Assistant, and Graphic Designer.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position of Digital Content Manager shall have:
● Ability to work in a diverse environment and with a diverse range of colleagues, stakeholders, and visitors is required
● Familiarity with HTML and CSS
● Demonstrated experience using Wordpress or equivalent CMS
● Knowledge of best practices for SEO, SEM, and traffic generation
● Knowledge of current and emerging metadata and usability standards
● Experience reporting and analyzing metrics to gauge trends, evaluate content, and drive decisions
● Familiarity with content management systems and a variety of third-party tools, such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, MailChimp, Tessitura, WordPress, and project management software
● Knowledge of social media channels, content creation for those platforms, and integration with web environment
● Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position of Digital Content Manager will have:
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
● Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills
● Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
● Experience ensuring correct implementation of brand standards
● Ability to work independently and in collaborative teams, while meeting deadlines
● Proven experience with online fundraising preferred
● Experience coordinating digital paid ads preferred
● Knowledge of video production and livestreaming preferred
● Knowledge of marketing and public relations tools and best practices preferred
● The ideal candidate for this position will have had 3-5 years experience as a social media manager or junior content manager, and is ready to advance his or her career.
