Description of General Responsibilities

The incumbent for this position will be required to coordinate and participate in clinical research by performing a variety of complex activities involved in the preparation, collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of research data in connection with clinical trials and observational studies being done at VCU and the other member hospitals of the Virginia Neuroscience Initiative Project (VNI.) This person will assist in the formulation of guidelines and instructions for the collection of clinical data and biological specimens. This person will coordinate and implement procedures for data collection. This person will help ensure compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved protocols as well as formulate study guidelines for the sites of the VNI. This person will help the PI (Dr. Merchant), site PIs, administrators, and study coordinators evaluate protocols submitted for consideration by the VNI. In collaboration with the PIs and co-investigators from the VNI sites, help evaluate methods for data collection to ensure the successful completion of research projects. The incumbent must be flexible in terms of working with scholars from various diverse backgrounds and personal experiences.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelors degree with major study in nursing or an academic field related to the health sciences, or equivalent experience.
-Significant clinical experience
-Experience supporting, facilitating, and carrying out qualitative and/or quantitative human study research projects
-Experience recruiting, screening and interviewing human research participants
-Experience with various methods of data collection
-Experience developing human subject research project standard operating procedures, policies and guidelines
-Experience maintaining and auditing research study records in compliance with the IRB
-Experience tracking and establishing statistical data using statistical software.
-Demonstrated ability to engage with a large and diverse peer group, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to work in a diverse environment

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.
