Description of the Job

Residential Life and Housing seeks students who have a desire to serve the residence hall community by holding part-time positions in our mail rooms. Successful candidates must exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to critically think, a professional image, and excellent customer service.

Student workers will serve in a primary role in an area mail room.

Student workers may be placed in area mail rooms in any one of our 12 residence halls on the Monroe Park and MCV campus. There may also be the opportunity to work in more than one residence hall mailroom in order to pick up additional hours within a given pay period.

This position is supervised by the Mail Service Coordinator for Residential Life and Housing.

Mail room duties

• Accept mail and packages from USPS, FedEx, UPS, Laser Ship, DHL and all private delivery carriers.
• Sort, process, and deliver mail and package slips to student mail boxes in a timely manner, according to Residential Life & Housing policies and procedures.
• Utilize customer service skills to answer questions including those regarding mail, packages, the residence halls, and the University as a whole, for parents, students, and other visitors, in person, via telephone, or any other means of communication.
• Work together with coworkers to finish projects, assignments and day to day workload in a timely manner.
• Take initiative to start projects as necessary.
• Communicate openly with coworkers and supervisors regarding issues and problems found so they can be addressed quickly and effectively.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Must be a current VCU student

Please include hours of availability for the Summer months (Summer begins May 10, 2017)

Area mail room hours are from 10am-7pm M-F and 6pm-9pm on Sundays.

Must be available to work a minimum of two hours at a time.
•Sort, process and deliver mail and packages for students and staff of assigned resident hall
•Receive mail and packages from USPS, FedEx, UPS, Laser Ship, DHL, and all private delivery carriers.
•Utilize customer service skills to assist: carriers, students, and staff on a daily basis
•Process all mail and package deliveries in a timely manner
•Maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality when processing mail and packages
•Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times
•Work together with coworkers to finish projects, assignments, and day to day workload in a timely manner
•Communicate openly with coworkers and supervisors regarding issues and problems found so they can be addressed quickly and effectively.
