Description of the Job

Support the Assistant Director & Coordinators for Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) in advising councils and chapters, assisting in leadership training and retreats, and community-wide program development and implementation. Assist with the planning and implementation of community programs and workshops; includes providing program resources, marketing support, assisting in personal/group development, and risk management with student leaders. Advise the FSL Marketing Committee and help to develop marketing efforts for the FSL Office.
Attend and monitor office-sponsored events as assigned/needed to ensure programmatic success, participant safety and facility security. Attend meetings/workshops/retreats and student programs/activities as needed. Demonstrate a commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion efforts within FSL. Have/Gain a knowledge and understanding of basic office policies and procedures. Serve as a representative and point of contact for the office. Support students from 4 separate councils (CPC, IFC, MGC, NPHC). Communicate with chapters on behalf of the office. Update and maintain office records. Manage the front office area. Maintain confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and admission into the Virginia Commonwealth University Graduate School. Provide evidence of effective leadership and communication skills. Demonstrate ability to work in and develop activities for a culturally diverse setting. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which will include evening and weekend hours. Demonstrate organization skills. Ability to work independently and in a team. Available to start work on July 17.

Preferred Qualifications

Leadership involvement with or experience coordinating Fraternity & Sorority Life activities; can include experience as a student leader, a graduate assistant, or as a full time student activities professional.

Graduate students who are fully funded as graduate assistants must register for at least 9 graduate hours per semester (up to 6 hours during the summer if funded on a 12-month stipend). Course work must be taken for credit. This position is not a tuition-funded position; graduate students will only receive a stipend as payment.
