Description of the Job

The Student Leadership and Involvement Center (SLIC) in the University Student Commons at VCU is looking for energetic and knowledgeable individuals who can assist the department in supporting the decision-making and involvement needs of students while creating a vibrant campus environment.

The Graduate Assistant for SLIC will be engaged in many experiences to create a well-rounded learning environment for all VCU students. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and collaboratively, possess a reasonable knowledge of event planning, leadership development, program development and be able to contribute to a team atmosphere.

Applicants will be considered for positions in the following areas: programming, student organizations, service, and leadership. Please specify in your cover letter the areas that are of interest to you and why.

Programming
*Advise committees of the Activities Programming Board and assist with the finance process, event planning, event execution and assessment.
*Attend evening and weekend programs.
*Attend regular meetings between campus partners who assist with programming.

Student Organizations
*Facilitate meetings with student organizations and students interested in getting involved on campus.
*Create presentation schedule for workshops.
*Assist with student organization management.
*Manage recognition process for student organizations and advisors.

Service
*Meet with students interested in service opportunities.
*Research, plan and execute service projects.
*Assist with the advisement of Alternative Spring Break and RamPantry.

Leadership
*Plan and execute leadership programs including leadership conference, lunch ‘n lead series and leadership plunges.
*Assist with planning and implementation of the Leadership and Service Awards program.
*Coordinate logistics for the I-LEAD® Connect program.

All positions require the individual to maintain 20 office hours per week while having a flexible work schedule to include weekend and evening hours as necessary. All graduate assistants will be asked to attend departmental meetings and trainings, present on various leadership topics as needed and will be assigned additional responsibilities based on interests and skills in a particular area. All positions will be involved with major programs such as Welcome Week and Homecoming.

Required Qualifications

Graduate students who are fully funded as graduate assistants must register for at least 9 graduate hours per semester (up to 6 hours during the summer if funded on a 12-month stipend). Course work must be taken for credit. This position is not a tuition-funded position; graduate students will only receive a stipend as payment.
