Description of the Job

The Office of Student Athlete Support Services employs approximately 40-50 tutors in nearly every major subject area each semester. VCU Rams Tutors promote academic success by helping student-athletes who are experiencing academic difficulty or need additional support to develop academic skills and course-specific knowledge. Training will be provided to tutors to effectively meet the needs of tutees. There may also be limited opportunities for tutors to work during the summer. Tutors are expected to be knowledgeable in chosen content areas and be capable of teaching study skills and learning strategies. Tutors will also be responsible for special projects and other duties as assigned by the Tutor Coordinator.

Required Qualifications

- Must have completed at least 40 credits.
- Must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative undergraduate and/or graduate GPA.
- Be available to work a minimum of 12 hours a week. You determine your own schedule.
- Be able to work with student-athletes from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
- Have excellent communication skills and a patient, encouraging attitude.
- Must have a bachelors degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Applicants do not need to be registered as students to qualify if they have already completed a Bachelor’s degree.
