Position Summary and Qualifications

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal

To provide personalized attention in teaching, learning and service to all constituents and to advance discovery and creativity of the entire engineering community.

Position Responsibilities

1.Teaching
Faculty member is expected to provide high quality instruction in electrical and computer engineering graduate and undergraduate courses and to develop new courses as necessary based department needs and the background of the candidate.
2.Research
Demonstrated record of high quality research and scholarship. Candidates should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the potential to initiate interdisciplinary research and educational synergies among diverse areas. All specializations will be considered, with particular interest in; cyber physical systems and cyber security, dependable systems, big data storage, transmission, and processing, real-time embedded systems, autonomous systems, instrumentation and control, and medical-related embedded system applications. Junior faculty will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department and the School of Engineering. At the Associate and Full Professor levels, the faculty member should have a well-developed research portfolio with evidence of multidisciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise within the department.
3.Service
The candidate will be expected to provide high quality service to the department, school, university and professional community.

Required Qualifications

-Must possess a PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline.
-Candidates should have an outstanding record of achievement and impactful research in academia, industry and/or at national laboratories and demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. They must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, providing service to the university and profession, and to broadening the intellectual diversity of the ECE department.
-The School of Engineering at VCU supports a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment. The candidate will demonstrate experience that shows their commitment to fostering such an environment.
-Junior faculty candidates will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department and the School of Engineering. At the Associate and Full Professor levels, the faculty member should have a well-developed research portfolio with evidence of multidisciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise within the department.
-Individuals who demonstrate the desire to actively participate in creating and nurturing a highly collaborative, creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial culture and the ability to initiate interdisciplinary research across diverse academic divisions at VCU will be given top priority.
